Day 5
- Tuesday 14th August 2012
Broken
Hill to Tibooburra
Distance traveled 330kms, 100kms bitumen then good dirt roads and bitumen all the way.
The
excitement of finally pulling out of 'town' as a whole group and hitting the
dirt had us all up early. We were to
meet at the information center at 9am to get supplies and be ready to leave by
9.30am. This info center is also home to
Australia's largest Gloria Jeans so it was with coffee in hand we began our day
:-) We were all set and comfortably
pulled out of town on time. The first
100kms flew past and before we knew it we were again airing down taking photos
and setting up for dirt driving. The
road was comfortably wide and freshly graded which made the driving easy and
comfortable. Our first stop was at
Packsaddle for coffee and wee break.
Then we pushed on into Milparinka for lunch and a look around. We moved on about 2.45pm with camp
calling. The plan was to stay at the
closest National park camp grounds but on a quick inspection they were busy and
windy and not overly appealing. We
decided to try the other one which was Mt Wood Station. It was a further 25kms but worth the
look. We were happy to find no one else
here, toilets, camp kitchen with tank water and a billabong just in the tree
line. We set camp took photos of the
sunset and enjoyed a night of star gazing.
I saw 5 shooting stars the night was so clear.
Time to air down as we hit Dirt.
Rain collecting.
The Convoy all clean.
See how happy James is = Dirt driving ahead.
Morning Coffee Break.
Milparinka Town.
Sunset at Mt Wood camp ground.
