Cape Leveque, Whale Song & Middle lagoon, a week of total relaxation.

Sunday was a day at camp. We needed a day to wash and sort and just chill so that's what we did. We had a late cooked breakfast and a super yummy roast dinner and then again made damper. Oh man I love having a camp fire.

Monday we woke with the rooster. Oh I will NEVER own a rooster or if I do it will have a muzzle. We packed up and with Jo and Ann we all set off for Cape Leveque. For a short bitumen run we hit the dirt and aired down. We didn't see Jo and Ann from this point till later at camp they were infront and took off and were driving faster then us. We were in no hurry so we just pottered along. The road was the worst we've driven on this trip. It wasn't so much dirt but very sandy and unpredictable. At times it was as wide as a 4 lane highway and at other times it was only a car width wide. After 100km of sand we hit the bitumen again. After airing up we pulled into camp about 1pm. We have a nice shady spot. The camp ground is small and very peaceful. We set up, had lunch and then went for a walk over to Eastern beach for a swim. We stayed over at the beach for ages. Jo and Ann joined us and another couple we had met at the Gateway also came along to say hi. Back at camp an early shower then we walked down to Western beach to watch the sun set. With a little cloud it was stunning. Back up at the reception we found some great picnic tables overlooking the coast so James prepared dinner and then we ate watching the twilight and then stars. After a nice chat with Mum we wondered back to camp and spent the rest of the evening chatting with Jo and Ann.

Tuesday we woke and it was warm. It had stayed warm all night. We just had a chilled morning and then drove out to One Arm Point to go see the Hatchery. There was a tour at 10am, so we joined it. It was very enjoyable and informative. James even got to hand feed a barramundi. On our way out of town I was stopped by the police for a random breath test, luckily I had passed on the vodka for breakfast today and got the all clear. We then visited Cygnet Bay Pearl farm. Wowsers those things are expensive. Pretty sure, but expensive. Back at camp we went back to Eastern beach for a swim then back to camp for lunch under the shade of the trees. A beautiful sea breeze had picked up and with the large shady trees it made for a very quiet relaxing afternoon at camp. We chatted with the neighbours and read. Late afternoon we threw some drinks into a cooler bag and headed over to watch the sun set from the deck infront of the restaurant. Our neighbours Rach & Norm and kids were there. We all sat enjoying the view and company. After sunset their baby Thomas (7 months) fell asleep in the pram and the 3 older kids disappeared back to camp to watch a movie. James and I had dinner reservations and when we said we were having a treat they said they should do the same so we made it a table for 4. We sat and chatted all evening and enjoyed a scrumptious meal with great company in an amazing location.

The day came for us to farewell Cape Leveque. It sure is a special place. We had a slow pack up as we didn't have far to travel. We drove down the bitumen to the turn off to Whale song and Middle Lagoon. This road wasn't much fun. Still just sandy but much rougher then the other one. We first stopped at Middle lagoon to make a booking for in 2 nights time then pushed on out to Whale song. On arrival your greeted in the cafe which is cool and calming with music playing and an amazing view. This place is a little piece of heaven especially after being on those roads. We were welcomed and shown where to camp. It's only got 6 camp spots, a very creative loo and bush shower. We set camp then walked back to the cafe for lunch. We certainly didn't expect it to be so damn good. Again the view and atmosphere make for the whole experience. We spent the afternoon napping and reading & chatting with the neighbours.

Thursday was a warm slow easy day. We fished without success but our neighbours gave us 4 small whiting. Yum. We had them for lunch. We read and relaxed and chatted and just soaked in the amazing view from camp. Oh and we saw whales.

Friday we had a leisurely morning then packed up and drove a whole 20km to Middle lagoon to camp. We did the usual set up, lunch then went for a walk. Later in the day we went down for a swim. The water was cool but refreshing. After shell collecting and more walking back to camp for a quiet night.

Saturday went past in a blur. We walked the length of the beach before breakfast. Then just read and let the day pass us by.
