Day 14
- Thursday 23rd August
Lightning
Ridge to Orange
Distance Traveled 499kms All Bitumen
We had
a good days drive ahead of us so we woke early then packed up. We went into town and found a cafe for toast
and coffee. We then visited the info center and from here pushed on out of town for a picture with the sign and to
meet up with the rest of the group. We
pushed through Wallget and onto Coonamble for a quick stop. We then drove through to Brocklehurst where
we originally intended to stop for our lunch break. The camp spot was beside the river and a good
place to know for future. There was a
storm threat and the sky was growing darker with rumbles of thunder in the area
so we jumped back in and made it into Dubbo for fuel before it hit. We then headed into the storm. We were fortunate and only drove through the
edge of the rain but behind us the area was getting dumped on. As we arrived into Orange the skies cleared we
found the van park and set up on grass.
We had gone from 25° to 10° and we noticed the difference. The park had a nice useable camp kitchen so
we cooked and ate in the shelter and spent the night enjoying a drink. Dazza dropped past for a drink and we filled
him in on the stories. Not long after
bed the wind picked up and the rain thumped down for about an hour. We were cozy in bed so we slept through the
end of it.
