We woke late and had a relaxed morning. About 10am we decided to head out for a trip
up to Craigs Hut. Along King Saddle
track we crossed the river 5 times. The river crossings can be very deceiving
they look much shallower then they are, none were too deep but deeper then we
thought.
We first stopped at King Hut for a quick photo and look
around. Then we pushed onto Craigs
Hut. As we climbed the tracks the views
were amazing we stopped and took a photo of the group with the Mountains in the
back drop. We arrived at Craigs hut
around 11.30am and it was such an amazing feeling to the area. It was cool in the wind but the air was
incredibly fresh. We soaked up the
atmosphere took photos and explored around the hut.
We then did our first Black Diamond track up Stirling Mt to
the summit. It was steep and rough in
patched but the convoy had no problems traversing it. We climbed to 1746 meters and the view from
the top was incredible. There we not
many things around us that were higher than we were. We could see Mt Buller and Mansfield and
several mountain ranges. We took photos
and decided that we would push on down to Howqua Gap for lunch. The track out was just as good only we were
going downhill now and gravity helps.
We pulled into Howqua Gap and we all made lunch had a look
through the well used huts and caught up with a guy from the LROC club we had
met at the last Khanafari. He was here
with just his family cruising around.
We then turned our noses back to camp and made it back by
3pm. The fire was built and relaxing was
done and we had a great night around the fire.
